Posted - 17/05/2005 : 17:11:55 Some info on music that I wrote for the post 'Vision On' period:
'Marguerite' was my first gallery theme with clarinet melody over a reggae backing now residing in the KPM music library on 'The Reggae Album': http://www.playkpm.com/kpmcode/viewcd/view_fs.cfm?cdnum=01000096&l=6&trk=4
'Marguerite' is also currently available on a compilation on the 'Hooj Choons' label, you can hear a bit of it on this HMV page: http://www1.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=93;-1;-1;-1&sku=55089
and at a lower resolution you can hear even more here: http://www.thejudge.me.uk/Main/Raves/HBT_12_04.htm
My second Gallery theme 'Water Buffalo', which had a loosely oriental feel, I hope to make available soon along with other incidental and underscore music that I created for the 'Take Hart' and 'Hart Beat' series. The current popularity in retro synth sounds makes these tracks sound quite fresh. More info after the negotiations!
I'm still writing music for arty films some of which you can download from my website: http://www.zoot.co.uk/ where you can also find out what I've been up to since the 80s.
Thanks to all here who are helping keep those creative days alive. I had a close working relationship with producer Chris Pilkington who always made me feel that I was a major contributor to the success of a show that was both wothwhile and fun.

Posted - 13/09/2005 : 18:13:41 Heh heh, I can see how that sounds! Not enough of a compliment to Bob Morgan's music - oh the pitfalls of describing feelings. It was a eureka moment though.
I can find a bit of sunrise in 'Marguerite', though it did latch onto me all those years ago for being tinged with something a bit dark. On hearing it again, maybe it was set in relief from the other music they thought should go on childrens' TV (I remember the theme to 'Nosy-bonk' but wish it weren't so). I suppose what I experienced and what stuck was a mode of calm introspection, which is about perfect for the gallery (for a sunrise too).
Other eureka moments finding long loved but never identified music: The Associates 'Party Fears Two', Eric Satie 'Gnossiennes', FSOL 'Papua New Guinea'... a mystery record from the 80s called something like 'No Memory'...
Can't wait to get hold of the original 'Marguerite'!
cheers,
eddie

Eddie, should you be telling us about this 'private moment'?
Seriously though, glad you found this thread. Is worth hunting down the original piece - sheer bliss. Clearly there are times when all the right elements come together and this was the case for Bob when he wrote that one. Bob did tell me that the clarinet solo was laid down just as the sun was coming up. Glad I'm not the only one who does their best work at night. In fact come to think of it, once you get past 3am you find all the really interesting people about - strange that...

Posted - 28/08/2005 : 22:20:34 Hi Bob and Vision On forum,
Aaaah! At last I found it - with full shivers up the spine! I've looked for your 'Marguerite' theme several times (google search: Take Hart theme 80s!) with no luck. Have remembered that theme from when I was about 10yrs old and watching Take Hart after school I'd secretly hope it would play (I agree with jackbox: my eyes would roll if Left Bank 2 came on!). In a break from some work it came into my head again, this forum came up... clarinet and reggae theme... It still sounds gorgeous - cool, dark and introspective but somehow absolutely positive - calmly invites you to suspend everything.
It certainly isn't just a bit of nostalgia, which obviously can also be powerful. I used to have a private moment when your music came on, and remembered it very clearly. That theme used to send me!
Thanks v much

A couple of years ago he was working for Zeppotron (part of Endemol) - my brother met him a few times, and may still have contact details. I'll ask him.
Good to hear from you, Bob - love your stuff! |

Posted - 11/08/2005 : 23:15:57 'Marguerite' is an astounding piece actually. I do recommend visitors to the forum go visit: http://www.thejudge.me.uk/Main/Raves/HBT_12_04.htm as Bob has indicated above. You'll find the track if you look for 'Bob Morgan' down the left hand column. I also noticed John Cooper Clarke's "Beasley Street" listed on the same site - my favourite of Cooper Clarke - incredibly descriptive poem.
Boy 'Marguerite' brings back some memories. It leaves "Leftbank 2" standing in my opinion - a beautifully paced piece that floats across the mind like a misty morning.....summer days, cricket matches on the village green this is. No time to hurry - no time whatsoever, and ah theres Tony Hart in his deckchair quietly dozing after a chilled glass of wine....am I rambling now? You will know what I mean if you listen to it - its lovely - period.
Whats the chance of 'The Repeatos' appearing over here Bob?

Posted - 01/08/2005 : 18:55:43 Many thanks for recommending my site Ralph. If anyone wants more info on the stop-frame films of artist Peter Howson's work they should contact producer Charlie Paul at: studio@itchfilm.com
I have on the shelf in my studio a great number of tracks that I wrote for Tony's shows in the early eighties - maybe into three figures. They were all recorded onto tape that has absorbed moisture over the years and has to be baked at a low temperature to make them playable again! I am about start the long and tedious restoration process to make this music available once more.
Some of these tracks were was published by KPM music library on their now defunct 'Themes' label under the titles 'Serendipity' and Serendipity Rides Again'.
I have failed to discover the present whereabouts of Chris Pilkington - if anyone can point me in his direction I would be very grateful.
